2021 Australian Bendigo Invitational (17 – 19 Sep 2021)

Badminton Australia is delighted to announce the Australian Bendigo Invitational. The event will run from Friday 17th September 2021 to Sunday 19th September 2021 in Bendigo, Victoria.  The event replaces the Bendigo International Challenge that is not able to run due to Australian border restrictions. We are delighted to be able to bring this replacement event to provide opportunities for Australian athletes to participate in a national competition.

The results from this event will assist national selectors select athlete to the Badminton Australia national senior program that is a prerequisite to being selected into Australian national teams.

Chief Executive Officer for Badminton Australia Jamie Parsons said ‘We are delighted to be able to partner with the City of Greater Bendigo and the Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association to bring this national event to Bendigo. We are looking forward to seeing Australia’s best players and Australian Tokyo Olympians competing’.

2021 Australian Combined National Championships (24 Sep – 02 Oct 2021)

After close consultation with the State and Territory Badminton organisation we are very pleased to announce the dates for the Australian Combined Championships. The championships will be for individual events only – women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The event will be for U15s, U17s, U19s and Open age groups during the September School holiday period Friday 24th September to 2nd October. After going through an expression of interest process this event will be held in Bendigo, Victoria.

The current draft schedule is:

Open – Friday 24thSeptember through to Sunday 26th September 2021

U19/U15 – Monday 27th September through to Wednesday 29th September 2021

U17 – Thursday 30th September through to Saturday 2nd October  2021

 

The results from these Championships will be used to select athletes to the Badminton Australia National Senior and Development programs as these competitions are prerequisites to be selected into Australian national teams.

As per the selection policy, those eligible to be selected to Australian National Program  are those who finish in the positions below and will achieve automatic selection.

We are looking forward to Australia’s best Open and Junior talent vying for the Championships in Bendigo”
