2021 National Events Postponed

Badminton Australia regretfully announces that the 2021 YONEX Australian Bendigo Invitational, the 2021 YONEX Australian Combined National Championships and the 2021 Para National Championships that were scheduled for September 2021 have been postponed to December 2021.

The 2021 YONEX Australian Bendigo Invitational is now scheduled to be played at the Bendigo Stadium from Saturday the 4th of December and run through till Monday the 6th of December. This event may be combined with the 2021 Victoria Open that is currently scheduled to run on the same dates.

The 2021 YONEX Australian Combined National Championships will be played at the Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Stadium from Friday the 10th of December through till Saturday the 18th of December, dates for specific age groups are as follows; Open (10/12 – 12/12), U19 & U15 (13/12-15/12), U17 (16/12 – 18/12).

The 2021 Para National Championships will be played at the Altona Badminton Centre on Friday the 17th of December till Sunday the 19th of December.

Any athlete who has paid to participate in the postponed events can receive a full refund, or, the amounts can move across to the new event dates. To receive a full refund please click here to email Badminton Australia with the names and details of those who have entered.

2021 Australian Major Events

2021 Australian Bendigo Invitational (17 – 19 Sep 2021)

Badminton Australia is delighted to announce the Australian Bendigo Invitational. The event will run from Friday 17th September 2021 to Sunday 19th September 2021 in Bendigo, Victoria.  The event replaces the Bendigo International Challenge that is not able to run due to Australian border restrictions. We are delighted to be able to bring this replacement event to provide opportunities for Australian athletes to participate in a national competition.

The results from this event will assist national selectors select athlete to the Badminton Australia national senior program that is a prerequisite to being selected into Australian national teams.

Chief Executive Officer for Badminton Australia Jamie Parsons said ‘We are delighted to be able to partner with the City of Greater Bendigo and the Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association to bring this national event to Bendigo. We are looking forward to seeing Australia’s best players and Australian Tokyo Olympians competing’.

2021 Australian Combined National Championships (24 Sep – 02 Oct 2021)

After close consultation with the State and Territory Badminton organisation we are very pleased to announce the dates for the Australian Combined Championships. The championships will be for individual events only – women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The event will be for U15s, U17s, U19s and Open age groups during the September School holiday period Friday 24th September to 2nd October. After going through an expression of interest process this event will be held in Bendigo, Victoria.

The current draft schedule is:

Open – Friday 24thSeptember through to Sunday 26th September 2021

U19/U15 – Monday 27th September through to Wednesday 29th September 2021

U17 – Thursday 30th September through to Saturday 2nd October  2021

 

The results from these Championships will be used to select athletes to the Badminton Australia National Senior and Development programs as these competitions are prerequisites to be selected into Australian national teams.

As per the selection policy, those eligible to be selected to Australian National Program  are those who finish in the positions below and will achieve automatic selection.

National Events Prospectus’ Released

Badminton Australia is pleased to share the prospectus’ for both the 2021 YONEX Australian Bendigo Invitational and the 2021 YONEX Australian Combined National Championships.

Both events will take place in Bendigo in September, the 2021 YONEX Australian Bendigo Invitational will run from the 16th of September through till the 19th of September at Bendigo Stadium.

The 2021 YONEX Australian Combined National Championships will run from the 24th of September till the 2nd of October and will combine individual championships for U/15, U/17 U/19 and Senior age groups to be played at the Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Stadium.

Performance Pathways Manager Announced

After a very thorough recruitment process Badminton Australia is delighted to announce that Ashley Naumann has been appointed to the AIS funded position of Performance Pathway Manager. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of Badminton in Australia’s Performance Pathway to successfully identify, develop, support and progress talented athletes – including para athletes on the AIS pathway. This position reports directly to the Badminton Australia CEO.

Ashley has extensive management experience and background in high performing environments and talent development. He has a proven track record of working with players of all levels including developing talented and high performing players and coaches to state, national and international level. Ashley will bring his experience as the Talent Development Manager with Tennis Australia, Player Development Manager at Tennis Victoria and as the Head Women’s Coach for Tennis at the AIS to the role. Ashley’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Education.

Badminton Australia is looking forward to Ashley commencing in his role on Tuesday 28 July, 2020.
