Thomas & Uber Cup Announcement

2020 continues to throw challenges at badminton globally and at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, Australia has decided not to send a team to the BWF 2020 Thomas & Uber Cups scheduled for October. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Aarhaus, Denmark. With bans on International travel out of Australia currently in place, and with the interests of our players and officials health and wellbeing front of mind. Badminton Australia has determined that it is not in the best interests of the players and support staff to ask them to travel.

Jamie Parsons, CEO of Badminton Australia, expressed his thoughts “It was a difficult decision to make, but due to the international travel conditions in place and the health and safety of our players and all related staff remains paramount. Unfortunately, it is not feasible for the teams from Australia to participate in this year’s event”

“With many of the players who were shortlisted to go to Aarhaus living in Australian states that have COVID-19 restrictions in place, they are still struggling to train in their regular environment, and international travel for tournaments still feels a long way off”,  Jamie continued “ Although it is disappointing for Australia not to be sending a team, we wish all of our players a safe and prompt return to the badminton courts at home. We would also wish everyone involved in the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals a highly successful tournament
