Badminton Australia has released the nomination criteria for both the Oceania Championships and the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals for 2020.
The Oceania Championships will be held in Ballarat from the 10th of February till the 16th of February, and this will align with the continental championship period, an organised blackout of all significant events on the BWF calendar. Australia took out the Oceania Championships in 2019 over New Zealand and will look to put forward a strong team for a repeat performance in 2020. The Oceania Championships will contribute to a player’s selection for the Thomas & Uber Cup along with a series of other selection criteria as outlined in the Thomas & Uber Cup nomination criteria.
The Thomas & Uber Cup will be held in the city of Aarhus in Denmark from the 16th to the 24th of May 2020. The last iteration of both cups was back in 2018, held in Bangkok, and our success at the 2018 Oceania Championships in Hamilton saw Australia take both places on offer for the Oceania Confederation. After being placed in challenging pools Australia finished 13th place in both Thomas and Uber Cups. Additional to nomination for Oceania Championships players wishing to secure a spot in the Thomas & Uber Cup will also need to participate at the Ede Clendinnen and Australian National Championships, and a host of other specific selection criteria outlined in the nomination criteria. Both nomination forms can be found within the respective selection criteria along with key dates, costs and selection procedure.
2020 promises to be a big year for badminton with Tokyo 2020 following the Thomas and Uber Cup only a month later, no doubt badminton fans will be looking forward to an enticing year.
