Badminton Australia

LGBTQIA+ Communities

Message From The Badminton Australia CEO

As part of the ongoing development of sport in Australia, and with the desire to be a leader in inclusive initiatives, Badminton Australia wishes to make public its position on LGBTQIA+ community inclusion.

Badminton Australia welcomes people of all backgrounds and sexual orientations to be part of the badminton community. As an organisation, we believe that we have the capabilities and necessary resources to provide a positive and progressive sport for people of all sexual orientations. Badminton prides itself on offering opportunities to everyone to play our sport, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or ability. We encourage everyone to reach out to their local club/sporting centre to pick up a racquet and get involved!

In May 2023 Badminton Australia released its LGBTQ+ Inclusion Policy which can be viewed in the General Policies section of our website.

Badminton Australia will continue to seek advice from Pride In Sport, the Australian Human Rights Commission and LGBTQIA+ organisations on how we can continue to improve inclusion for all people as we know that diversity is what makes our game strong.

Pride in Sport is the only sporting inclusion program specifically designed to assist sporting organisation of all levels with the inclusion of employees, players, coaches, volunteers and spectators with diverse sexualities and genders. The world-first Pride In Sport Index (PSI) benchmarks and assess the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people across all sporting contexts.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is an independent statutory organisation established by an act of Federal Parliment. We protext and promote human rights in Australia and internationally.
