After retaining the Pan Pacific Trophy earlier in the week, Australian's have come away from the New Zealand Junior International in Hamilton with 2 titles. Gronya Somerville and Sawan Serasinghe took out the mixed doubles while Jennifer Tam won the girls singles title.

Just two weeks out from her 16th birthday, New South Wales youngster Jennifer Tam showed experience beyond her years to take out the girls singles title in a hard fought match. Tam was forced to come back from 1 game down to overcome Kiwi Angie Leung in 3 games, eventually triumphing 18-21 21-10 21-19.

The mixed doubles saw top seeded Victorians Sawan Serasinghe and Gronya Somerville take on surprise finalists Joseph Timms and Marcia Ho of New Zealand. The Aussie duo proved too strong for their trans tasman counterparts taking the match 21-18 21-15. It was great preparation for Somerville who will head off to China with the Uber Cup team this Thursday.

Australia's other finalists for the day were the Athi Selladurai (Vic) and Daniel Guda (NSW) in the Men's Doubles. Guda and Selladurai struggled to get into the match in the first game, going down 13-21. However they fought back strongly in the second game to make it a much closer affair, and with a little more luck the Aussies could have forced a deciding game, but it was not be, losing the second game 20-22.

It was a great effort by all the Aussies at the event, for full scores from the tournament please click here.
