TALENT IDENTIFICATION - the search for our future sporting heroes
Best in the World
Badminton Australia and the Australian Sports Commission are looking for young talented female athletes who have the qualities to become the 'best in the world'.
With a new talent and development program due to start in June 2007, these talented athletes will discover a new world of sport - a journey to be the world’s best badminton players. Their goal is podium finishes / medals at:
- The Olympic Games

The Talent ID Squad
Our first talent identification and development (TID) project is based in Victoria and this
is a great opportunity for young female athletes. From June 2007, a special talent
training program will start in Victoria. This “Talent ID Squad” will have about 12 top female athletes – the best we can find. The ages will be about 10 – 13 years old.
Talent Development
Once the talented athletes have been identified and selected, they become part of a national talent development program funded by Badminton Australia and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The Talent ID Squad will also receive education sessions, sports science and medicine servicing from the Australian Institute of Sport at AIS training camps.
The talent development program includes:

Talent ID
Talent identification is a systematic approach to finding talented young athletes who have the potential to be the best in the world. It uses a scientific approach to find potential high performance athletes. The athletes will undergo a number of sport skills and physical tests to see if they have the right qualities to be the best in the world.
Timing
The invitation to talented athletes will be issued in May and we expect testing of athletes for the program to begin in late May /early June. The final selections will be in late June.
