Selection Policies

Badminton Australia are selecting senior national teams for the events listed below. Each event follows the Badminton Australia General Selection Policy and has specific criteria for each event.


The objective of the BA Selection Policy is to ensure the appropriate Australian team is selected. The Policy and specific criteria applies to athletes. Coaches and team officials are covered separately.

World Championship – Individual

Competing as individuals in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles Played every year in August except in an Olympic year.


Selection criteria: Selection criteria - Individual World Championship 2015

Nomination form: No nomination form required


Team World Championships – Thomas & Uber Cup

The Thomas Cup is the Men’s World Team Championships and the Uber Cup is the Women’s World Team Championships
Played every second year in May in even years


Team World Championship – Sudirman Cup

The Sudirman Cup is the mixed World Team Championships
Played every second year in May in odd years

Oceania Championships – Team

The Oceania Team Championship is the mixed Championship
Played every second year


Olympics

Competing as individuals in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles
The Olympics is in Rio in 2016 and in Tokyo in 2020


Commonwealth Games

Competing in both a Team event and an Individual event
The CWG Team event is a mixed team Championship. The CWG individual is five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles
The Commonwealth Games are in April 2018 at the Gold Coast
