Saturday, 15 November 2014 15:06

The Badminton World Federation last night awarded the BWF Sudirman Cup 2017 to the Gold Coast in Australia – extending the event to a third continent for the first time in its 25-year history.

The Gold Coast will host the 2017 Badminton World Federation (BWF) Sudirman Cup, it has been announced, after beating Glasgow to be awarded the event in what was a battle between Commonwealth Games host cities.

The Australasian Under 17 National Championships is the largest age group tournament on the BA junior calendar. In 2005, 17 State/Territory and regional teams competed for the coveted June Bevan Trophy – the team’s component of the competition. The format is a team’s competition followed by an individual championship. Under 17 teams from Oceania and BWF member countries are invited to this Australasian Championships and in 2005, apart from the regular participation by three New Zealand regional teams, a combined Oceania team entered for the first time with players from Samoa and Fiji.
