Australian National Team

Badminton Australia selects players to national squads and teams for Seniors and Juniors. They consist of players, which are estimated to have the level and / or potential to achieve the objectives set out by Badminton Australia. These players are working together with Badminton Australia with the purpose of getting the best possible international results from training, tournaments, personal skills and lifestyle.

 

Badminton Australia selects players to represent Australia at the following, but not limited to, Team and Individual Championships. Each event follows the Badminton Australia Badminton Australia Selection Policy - September 2017 and has specific criteria for each event. The objective of the BA Selection Policy is to ensure the appropriate Australian team is selected. The Policy and specific criteria applies to athletes. Coaches and team officials are covered separately.

 

Senior Championships

The CWG contains a Team event and an Individual event. The CWG Team event is a mixed team Championship. The CWG individual is five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles. The Commonwealth Games are in April 2018 at the Gold Coast.

The Sudirman Cup is the Mixed World Team Championships. It is played every second year in May in odd years.
 

Competing as individuals in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles. Played every year in August except in an Olympic year and qualification is based on World Rankings.

 

Competing as individuals in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles. Player every four years, the next Olympics is in Tokyo 2020 and qualification is based on World Rankings.

 

The 2018 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup will be held in Bangkok, Thailand. Sixteen men and Women's national teams have qualified and will compete for the World Championship. The sixteen teams are drawn into four pool with the top two in each pool progressing into the quarterfinals. The team match format consist of 3 singles and 2 doubles.

Junior Championships

This event is held every four years (during the same years as Commonwealth Games) and currently consists of a singles event together with a randomly paired mixed NOC mixed doubles event. This year’s event will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 1-12

BWF Qualification System

 

This event is held every two years (on odd years) and consist of both a team (Sudirman cup format) and individual event. Australian won the 2015 Oceania Junior Team Championships for the second consecutive edition. In addition the win in the team event, Australian players claimed 3 of the 5 titles on offer in the Oceania Junior Championships.

The Asia Pacific Team Championship is a biennial team event held in opposing years the Oceania Junior Team Championships. It follows the Sudirman Cup format of one match of each discipline and will be this year held in conjunction with the Australian Junior International.

The BWF World Junior Championships, held annually, consists of two separate events: a team event for the Suhandinata Cup followed by an individual event for Eye Level Cups.

The Singapore Youth International is one of the strongest events on the junior calendar and consists of individuals events (excluding mixed doubles) across U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups. The event is a key part of Badminton Australia’s junior program, with a strong focus on the U15 and U17 age groups.
